OUR WORK

Companies, foundations, universities, or research institutes, AiR&D caters to all needs in terms of scientific communication, both internal and external. Below are a few examples of clients projects.

VALEO

Photographie scientifique d'un produit Valeo prise par Alexandre Darmon pour l'agence AiR&D

THE BRIEF. The Paris Motor Show is a major event in which Valeo, of course, participates. To showcase their technologies, they have requested AiR&D to photograph their flagship products.

OUR SOLUTION. AiR&D produced two series of photographs showcasing Valeo components. These images were printed, mounted (120 x 80 cm), and displayed at Valeo's booth during the event. Subsequently, these photographs were part of a social media communication campaign.

Shiseido

THE BRIEF. Shiseido wanted to pay tribute to the raw materials used in their fragrances. They approached AiR&D to tell their story through a photographic series accompanied by texts.

OUR SOLUTION. AiR&D delivered a series of microscope photographs of plants and seeds, accompanied by poetic texts describing the physicochemical properties of these elements. Large prints were produced to adorn the walls of their new research center and Shiseido's headquarters in Paris.

Bettencourt Schueller Foundation

THE BRIEF. Every year, the Foundation presents awards to researchers whose work contributes to the wellness of society. At the awards ceremony they wanted to present photographs and videos of the researchers in action.

OUR SOLUTION. Every year, AiR&D visits the laboratories of the laureates on behalf of the Foundation to capture these photographs (in addition to videos, see below). The photographs capture the researchers at work, the equipment they use, and the lab environment.

The Bettencourt Schueller Foundation

THE BRIEF. Every year, the Foundation awards prizes to researchers in life sciences. During the award ceremony and later on social media, the Foundation wants to present the work of the laureates through videos.

OUR SOLUTION. AiR&D has been producing videos of the laureates since 2019. The films combine lab footage, interviews with the researchers in their environment, and integration of scientific images to illustrate the research subject. The agency's scientific expertise enables the creation of high-quality films that faithfully and intelligibly convey the researchers' work to the general public.

THE BRIEF - 2.  Through a web series, the Foundation aimed to highlight the connection between the laureates' work and societal topics such as health or food. Intended for social media, the format needed to be short and "punchy".

OUR SOLUTION - 2. In a highly dynamic video format perfectly suited for social media, the web series "C Fundamentals!" consists of 10 episodes focusing on research and its potential applications for the general public. Each video lasts approximately 2 minutes and combines the researcher's engaging speech with overlaid text animations.

Videography

The AiR&D agency relies on the expertise of its founders who regularly organize exhibitions worldwide, in prestigious venues such as Paris City Hall and UNESCO.

Other

To meet the diverse needs of our clients, we also produce other forms of communication materials, both physical and digital, such as websites, book covers, greeting cards, and illustrations for activity reports.

ILLUSTRATIONS FOR ACTIVITY REPORTS - SOLVAY

THE BRIEF. Solvay approached AiR&D with a dual objective: firstly, to illustrate their activity report with images of products directly derived from their laboratories, and secondly, to create content for their new campaign, "The Closer We Look, the Further We Go," connecting Solvay products with their applications.

OUR SOLUTION. AiR&D worked closely with Solvay's Communication team to create several photographic series highlighting their flagship products. Microscopic and macro views were captured, which continue to serve this dual objective to this day.

Website

THE BRIEF. The CFM Foundation for Research, which funds several thesis scholarships each year, wanted a complete overhaul of its website, including the ability for candidates to submit their applications online.

OUR SOLUTION. AiR&D has created a brand new website for the CFM Foundation, covering everything from UX (user experience) to the final design of the site, including the generation of new content such as videos. The website can be accessed at www.fondation-cfm.org

THE BRIEF. The MuSE laboratory at INRAE wanted to create a new website to enhance its appeal to students. Given that the content of the website required a high level of scientific expertise, MuSE approached AiR&D.

OUR SOLUTION. AiR&D has developed a website to showcase the research activities of the MuSE laboratory, including information about the team, publications, and job opportunities within the group. AiR&D was responsible for handling the front-end development, UX design, and creating photographic content for the website. The website can be accessed at www.muselab.fr.

Notebooks

THE BRIEF. During its annual ceremony, the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation provides its guests with notebooks that contain information about the Foundation and the laureates of the scientific awards.

OUR SOLUTION. AiR&D fully managed the realization of the project, including graphic design, editing, and delivery to the event venue, to produce 500 notebooks distributed on the day of the ceremony.

Textbook cover

THE BRIEF. The authors of a book published by Cambridge University Press on random matrices needed to create an elegant cover that is related to the subject of the book.

OUR SOLUTIONAiR&D came up with a "Mondrian-inspired" cover design by incorporating randomly generated matrices that we created ourselves.

OUR HISTORY

After the establishment of AiR (Art in Research) in 2017 as the first gallery dedicated to scientific photography, AiR&D agency was founded in 2018 to meet the increasing demand from clients who wanted to showcase their own research activities.

Research is beautiful, and our founder, Alexandre Darmon, knows it well. During his doctoral studies, he worked with liquid crystals, observing them daily under the microscope. He developed a genuine fascination for these objects that interact with light in such a unique way. It is this fascination with the beauty of research objects, combined with the desire to convey scientific

messages to a wider audience, that drove Alexandre to surround himself with top specialists in photography, videography, UX design, and motion design. Together, they collaborate to create high-quality scientific communication solutions tailored to each client's needs.

Since 2018, organizations from around the world, including companies, foundations, and research institutes, have trusted AiR&D to create customized communication solutions that highlight the beauty of their research. AiR&D works closely with these organizations to develop tailored solutions that effectively showcase the beauty of their scientific endeavors.
